Home Works USA

Volunteers, residents, and other community members are invited to share their stories about employment, entrepreneurship, affordable housing, “aging out,” gardening, green living, tiny living, health, wellness, tenant organizing, and leadership. The HWUSA Blog Team will consider blog posts on other topics too. A general guideline for writing a post can be found below.

Content Relevance:

  • Contributors should focus on topics and themes relevant to our blog’s niche.
  • All content should align with our blog’s objectives and target audience.
  • Ensure that your blog post delivers value to the reader. Research your topic thoroughly and provide accurate, up-to-date information. Back up your statements with credible sources or references whenever possible.
  • Introduction: Start your blog post with a captivating introduction that clearly states the purpose of the article and hooks the reader’s interest. The introduction should provide a preview of what the post will cover.
  • Well-structured content: Organize your blog post into sections or paragraphs with clear headings and subheadings. This helps readers navigate through the content easily and improves readability. Use bullet points or numbered lists when appropriate to break down information and make it more digestible.
  • Use engaging and concise language: Write in a conversational tone, keeping your language simple and concise. Avoid jargon or technical terms that may confuse or alienate readers. Use active voice to make your writing more dynamic and engaging.
  • Call-to-action (CTA): Conclude your blog post with a clear call-to-action, such as inviting readers to leave comments, share their opinions, or explore related content on your website. This encourages engagement and interaction with your readers.

Originality and Plagiarism:

  •    Content must be original, and contributors should avoid plagiarism.
  •    Proper citations and references should be provided for any external sources used.

Article Length:

  •    Articles should meet the specified word count range (e.g., 400-800 words).
  •    Longer or shorter articles may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Editing and Proofreading:

  • Before submitting your blog post, proofread it carefully to eliminate all spelling or grammatical errors. Edit for clarity, coherence, and flow. It’s a good idea to read your post aloud to ensure it sounds natural and cohesive.

Visuals and Media:

  • Include relevant images, infographics, or other visual elements to enhance your blog post and make it more visually appealing. Visuals can help break up text and make complex concepts easier to understand.
  • Ensure that all visuals enhance the content and align with the blog’s style and tone.
  • Attribute the source for all visuals provided which you did not personally create.

Links:

  • Include hyperlinks: When referencing external sources, statistics, or additional reading materials, include hyperlinks to provide easy access for readers to explore further if they wish.

Submission Process:

  • Submit articles in Google Docs to communitymanager@homeworks-usa.com.  Please include Blogpost in the subject line so it will reach the Team quickly.
  • Include a brief author bio and relevant social media handles for inclusion in the article or author bio section.

Rights and Ownership:

  • By submitting content, the contributor acknowledges the absence of an employer-employee or work for hire relationship with Home Works USA.
  • By agreeing to publication, the contributor grants Home Works USA permission to edit, modify, and republish the content with proper attribution.

Review and Feedback Process:

  • Submitted posts will be reviewed promptly.
  • Feedback, revisions, or acceptance notifications will be communicated to contributors via email.
  • Maintain professionalism and respect when interacting with other contributors and team members.

Ethical Guidelines:

  •     Contributor is responsible for complying with applicable legal and ethical standards.
  •     Avoid hate speech, discriminatory language, or any form of illegal content.
